Message thicknessess that can be welded (>2-3mm, ~0.1"), and there would be a severe learning curve for the every day welder to learn how to properly TIG/MIG weld aluminum components, filler wire differences, weld settings, etc. Cost, reliability, scrap rate (cost), material cost (cost again) are disadvantages that overshadow designers desire to save a few #s... thermodynamics drive aluminum to the oxide immediately, and that forms (aluminum oxide/ceramic) which does not weld without further challenges.

A ceramic or ceramic-lined exhaust would be just as light as aluminum, but again, is at the brunt of the cost whip.

I will obey the rules of the road. I will not drive like I'm delivering an organ. I will not purposely scare cows. I will not make light of gravity; and I will recognize the speed limits as strict law, and not just ballpark suggestions. Yeah, right!
